Maya Overland is a pediatric urology fellow with the Division of Urology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Maya did her Residency in Urology at the University of California San Francisco, San Francisco. Maya’s graduate studies were completed at the Medical Scientist Training Program at UC San Francisco. Her research focused on the fundamental mechanisms that allow us to consolidate complex experiences into retrievable blocks of information. She integrated molecular, cellular and neural network-level approaches to dissect the physical processes that underlie learning and memory. After her first two years of medical school, she worked in biophysics with Dr. Steven Finkbeiner’s group at the Gladstone Institute for Neurological Disease. She spent her junior year of undergraduate at Cambridge in the Cavendish Labs and graduated from MIT in 2003 with bachelor’s degrees in physics and biology and a minor in music composition.

“The Hertz Fellowship gives me the leeway to choose the questions I am most interested in and to utilize the techniques I consider most appropriate, even if they are outside the scope of our lab."
