David Karp, PhD

David Karp is a Trader at Jane Street.

David’s interest in aerospace engineering began at age seven when he designed a hovercraft that would have made George Jetson proud. His interests refined, and he grew extremely attached to the mathematical elegance inherent in the study of fluid mechanics. His academic interests now are in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and design optimization for scramjet-powered vehicles and race car aerodynamics. While at Princeton, David developed a shape optimization code for unsteady flows, an important step in the expansion of the CFD-based optimization to a broad range of engineering problems.

Aside from academic pursuits, David was heavily involved with the intramural sports program on campus; wrote sports articles for the Daily Princetonian; and was actively involved in the Princeton Charter Club (one of ten eating clubs). He is an avid golfer, tennis player and recent snowboarder. David received a Churchill Scholarship and will pursue a Masters in Advanced Studies in Applied Mathematics at Cambridge. David will activate his Hertz Fellowship in 2011.
