Gates Foundation spending $4M to create malaria-killing mosquitoes

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Biotech company Oxitech have joined forces to develop genetically engineered mosquitoes that will stop the spread of malaria. "Genetically-modified mosquitoes are showing promise in controlling other vector-borne diseases,” said Hertz Fellow Philip Welkhoff, director of the malaria program at the Gates Foundation. “We look forward to exploring their use alongside complementary interventions for malaria."
