Forward Facing: A Note from Wendy Connors, Hertz Foundation President
For many, the new year is a time of renewed energy and focus. And in my new role as Hertz Foundation president, it’s also a time for renewed commitment to our important work. I invite you to join me.
Our nation is navigating complex and urgent challenges that threaten our security and economic vitality. As I write this, the wildfires in Los Angeles are raging, directly impacting many in our Hertz community. Our hearts are with everyone grappling with loss and uncertainty.
The challenges we face are great, but so is my optimism. Because I have a unique opportunity to focus daily on this work and the future our fellows are creating. And I am confident in the power of science and technology to help create the world we want — and one that future generations deserve.
I have two adult children myself. As they grew up, our nation experienced incredible growth, from advances in regenerative medicine to groundbreaking technological breakthroughs. At the same time, we also faced daunting challenges, from terrorist attacks to a pandemic.
My children had questions — thoughtful, provocative and often difficult questions. Viewing the world through their eyes sparked in me a profound sense of responsibility. I became determined to do my part in building a stronger, healthier, more secure nation. This sense of purpose fueled my career in education and ultimately pointed me to the Hertz Foundation.
I’m deeply committed to the foundation’s mission to empower the nation’s most promising innovators in science and technology. I’m inspired by the moral commitment our fellows make to direct their talents toward the betterment of our nation and humanity. And I’m committed to supporting and building our multigenerational, interdisciplinary Hertz Community.
I’m thrilled for the opportunity to work with you all to amplify and accelerate this important work — and shape a better future for all.
Looking forward,
Wendy Connors
President, Hertz Foundation
