The Nathan P. Myhrvold Fellowship
Through the generosity of an anonymous donor, the Nathan P. Myhrvold Fellowship supports the renowned Hertz Fellowship program, which funds the doctoral education of the nation's top students in the applied physical and biological sciences, mathematics and engineering.
The $5 million endowed gift honors Hertz Fellow Dr. Nathan Myhrvold, one of the most visionary technology and business leaders of our time, and a long-time supporter of the Hertz Foundation's mission alongside his wife, Rosemarie Havranek, who has been a member of the foundation's board of directors for more than five years. Former chief technology officer of Microsoft and founder and chief executive officer of Intellectual Ventures, Myhrvold has worked on quantum theories of gravity with the renowned cosmologist Stephen Hawking and pursued a range of notable endeavors in fields ranging from paleobiology, climate science and astronomy, to nature and wildlife photography.
Thanks to the altruism and foresight of our donor, the Hertz Foundation will be able to fund more Hertz Fellows, in perpetuity, to pursue their passion and commitment to the science that strengthens our nation and secures the United States’ place as a world leader in intellectual and technological innovation.
The first recipients of the Nathan P. Myhrvold Fellowship will be announced in May 2023, as part of the 2023 Class of Hertz Fellows.
