Allen Chen received his PhD from the Harvard Biophysics program with support from the Hertz fellowship. He completed PhD thesis research on applications of synthetic biology to production and patterning of self-assembling amyloid materials, and also pursued additional training in human genetics. He is currently completing medical school. Prior to enrolling in the Harvard/MIT MD-PhD program he received an AB summa cum laude in Chemistry and Physics from Harvard College, and was a Gates Cambridge Scholar at University of Cambridge. Going forward he hopes to apply his background in quantitative biology, genetics, and technology development to study genetically defined diseases.
