Radu Mihaescu is a Director at Knight Capital Group.

In his role he is the Quantitative Strategist within the Electronic Trading Group (ETG).

Radu completed his PhD program in the Mathematics Department at UC Berkeley, under the joint supervision of professors Lior Pachter and Satish Rao. His graduate work focused on developing fast algorithms and statistical tools for computational biology, primarily in the problems of phylogeny reconstruction and sequence alignment. His research also included discrete algorithms, probability theory, graph theory, language processing and mathematical finance.

Radu is a native of Romania and holds a summa cum laude B.A. from Princeton University. His awards include: the National Science Foundation graduate fellowship, gold (1998), silver (1999) and bronze (1997) medals in the International Mathematical Olympiad (member of the Romanian national team), and two first place awards at the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (1997 and 1999). While at Princeton, Radu also ranked in the top 25 at the W.L. Putnam National Mathematical Competition, every year from 1999 to 2002, placing 7th in the nation in the 2002 edition.
