Youssef Marzouk, PhD

Youssef Marzouk is the Class of 1942 Associate Professor in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT, and director of MIT’s Aerospace Computational Design Laboratory. In addition, he is co-director of educational programs for the MIT Center for Computational Engineering. His research focuses on uncertainty quantification, inverse problems, statistical inference, and Bayesian computation for complex physical systems, and using these algorithms to address modeling challenges in energy conversion and environmental applications.

Youssef received his SB (’97), SM (’99), and PhD (’04) in mechanical engineering from MIT, and spent several years at Sandia National Laboratories before joining the MIT Aero-Astro faculty in 2009. He is a recipient of the Hertz Foundation Doctoral Thesis Prize (’04), the Sandia Laboratories Truman Fellowship (2004-07), the US Department of Energy Early Career Research Award (’10), and the Junior Bose Award for Teaching Excellence from the MIT School of Engineering (’12).

He serves on the editorial boards of the SIAM/ASA Journal on Uncertainty Quantification and the International Journal for Uncertainty Quantification.
