Francesmary Modugno, PhD
Francesmary Modugno is a Professor at the University of Pittsburgh in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences.
Francesmary was the first PhD graduate of the Carnegie Mellon University Human-Computer Interaction Institute. After completing her PhD, she joined the Computer Science Department at the University of Washington. Her mother’s diagnosis with breast cancer led her to return to the University of Pittsburgh, where she obtained a Masters of Public Health with a focus on cancer epidemiology and prevention. She joined the faculty in 2000 and is now a professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences.
Her work focuses on lifestyle, genetic, and behavioral risk factors for women’s cancers. She is currently the chair of the Data Access Committee for the international Ovarian Cancer Association Consortium and has also served as a Program Officer for the National Science Foundation National Research Traineeship Program and the Innovations in Graduate Education Program.
