Kimberly Beatty, PhD

Kimberly Beatty is an assistant professor at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon.

Kimberly is affiliated with the OHSU Center for Spatial Systems Biomedicine, Biomedical Engineering, the Knight Cancer Institute, and Chemical Biology. Her research group is developing novel chemical tools for imaging proteins and pathogens. Much of her recent research has focused on creating fluorogenic probes for esterases and sulfatases found in the human pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In 2008, Dr. Beatty completed her PhD in the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Her thesis project with David Tirrell involved imaging the proteome using reactive amino acid analogues. Her work with Dr. Tirrell appeared in the journals JACS, ChemBioChem, ACIE, and others. While at Caltech, she received an AAAS Alan E. Leviton Student Research Award, a PEO Scholars Award, and a Dow Travel Fellowship. She completed post-doctoral studies in the research group of Carolyn Bertozzi at UC Berkeley. Her research at UC Berkeley included developing fluorogenic probes for mycobacterial sulfatases.
