Stephanie Tzouanas Schmidt

Stephanie Tzouanas Schmidt uses high-throughput sequencing to study the genomes of individual cells. As a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Bioengineering at Stanford University, she focuses on engineering and harnessing new genomic technologies in order to better understand the complex mechanisms underlying cell differentiation in processes ranging from development to cancer. She has published eight papers, was lead author on two of them, and has presented talks on her work at national conferences such as the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’s Genome Engineering Meeting and the annual meeting of the Biomedical Engineering Society. As an undergraduate at Rice University, she conducted biomaterials and bone regeneration research at Rice, MIT, and the National University of Singapore and was awarded the Goldwater Scholarship and the Society for Biomaterials’ Award for Outstanding Research for her work.
