Daniel Spielman is the Sterling Professor of Computer Science, Statistics and Data Science and Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.

Daniel is a Simons Investigator, and a MacArthur Fellow, and the co-director of the Yale Institute of Network Science (YINS). As a Hertz Fellow, he earned his PhD in mathematics at MIT.

Daniel has received many awards, including the 2023 Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics for “​​multiple discoveries in theoretical computer science and mathematics.” 1995 ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award, the 2002 IEEE Information Theory Paper Award, the 2008 and 2015 Godel Prize, the 2009 Fulkerson Prize, the 2010 Nevanlinna Prize, and the 2014 Polya Prize. He is a fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery, a member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering, and the National Academy of Sciences. His main research interests include the design and analysis of algorithms, network science, machine learning, digital communications and scientific computing.
