1972 Hertz Fellow

Dr. Douglass Post is the Chief Scientist of the Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP). His permanent position is member of the senior technical staff of the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute. He has organized and led computational modeling groups at the Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He was head of the physics group of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project during the conceptual design and head of the in-vessel physics group during the engineering design. At the HPCMP, he also manages the DoD CREATE Program to develop large-scale computational engineering tools to design ships, airplanes and RF antennas. His professional interests include the development of computational engineering and science tools and the associated computational science and software engineering issues. Dr. Post earned a Ph.D. in physics from Stanford University. While at Stanford, he was an NSF Graduate Fellow, an Honorary Woodrow Wilson Fellow and a Hertz Fellow. He is a fellow of the IEEE, APS and ANS.
