2008 East Coast Hertz Fellows Scholars Retreat

April 11, 2008 - April 13, 2008
On April 11-13, 2008, 29 Hertz Fellows gathered in Woods Hole, MA to share research ideas and enjoy some time away. Keynote speaker for the retreat, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) Scientist Emeritus Robert Beardsley (Hertz Fellow 1966-67), described the work he and his collegues are involved with at the Institute. John Holzrichter, president of the Foundation and Lowell Wood, senior Fellowship interviewer, joined the group on Saturday allowing both current and alumni Fellows the opportunity to give feedback regarding their Fellowship experience.

Michael Telson, Hertz Fellow 1967-1973, generously gave his time by breaking away from Washington DC to share his experiences on how a Hertz Fellow got into public service. Lowell Wood qualifed his statement “doing well by doing good” in a discussion on research funding opportunities in bio-medical ?elds.

Our many thanks to the guest speakers for their contributions to the program and to Fellows Joe Morrone and Kyle Gustafson who organized the event.
